6 Reasons You Need a Night Away… ALONE

Recently I went on a little staycation… by myself! It wasn’t anything all that extravagant and truth be told I was literally 1 mile from home, but this was a big thing for me.

I feel like there are the mom’s who flit away on retreats, travel, and nights away without the bat of an eye. Then there are moms like me. We have a million and one reasons why getting away for a whole 24 hours by ourselves seems impossible and not worth the time, money or stress it would cause. I have been strongly in this camp for my entire 8 years of motherhood!

But, alas… I am a changed mother! I will from here on forward be disappearing from my family for at least 24 hours every 6 months. Here are the 6 reasons why you should too…

  1. A Good Night’s Sleep

I mean do you need another reason? What mom doesn’t need a night of uninterrupted sleep?

      2. Space to Think!

This was likely my biggest motivation. We have a lot of big changes on the horizon and I was really craving some uninterrupted thinking time. I can’t even tell you how heavenly it is to have hours on end of pure mental riffing! I absolutely arrived home with a clearer and more organized mind and for this reason alone, it was 1000% worth it!

     3. Your Husband would do it!

This might be more of a thing between me and my husband, but he has gone camping with the boys countless times and often on a whim. I am always super supportive as he heads out and inevitably a bit resentful and cranky upon his return. Can you relate?

Now my husband has urged me to do the same for several years, but it is all those reasons I have stocked away that seemed to hold me back. So this was a big hump to get over but I’m so glad I did.

    4. Indulgent Self-Care

I have this workbook called “Elevated Motherhood” (click here to access) and it goes into depth about the 8 types of self care. Indulgent self care is one of the categories, but also the one I feel the least pulled toward. Maybe I need to dig into this a bit more but that’s not my point. The ultimate of indulgent self care is spending quality time with yourself in a beautiful place being pampered by attentive staff. Hands down the best way to cure the need for some indulgence!

    5. Adult Conversation

This one was a bit unexpected, but I had some absolutely delightfully light and fun conversations with other adults and I never got interrupted. It’s one of those little things that upon reflecting, you’re like “wow, that was so nice”.

We have spent a lot of time at hotels as a family, but on those trips it’s as if we exist in this little family bubble. There is a little interaction here and there with fellow guests but there is never a moment to dive into a conversation without being pulled aside for one reason or another. So this was an unexpected delight for me!

    6. You are Worth it and Deserve it!

This one is as simple as #1… mothers are the most undervalued workforce raising the future of our country. At the very least you deserve a night off!

So if you are that mom, who just can’t sneak away. Please, put those excuses aside, book a local hotel! You will thank me later.
