My Home Yoni Steaming Recipe

 

In case you have no idea what Yoni steaming is, let me begin there. It is an ancient practice of introducing steam and often herbs to the vaginal canal by sitting over a pot of steaming water. It has been used for centuries in cultures around the world and is finally having its moment in the United States, although I hope it’s more than a moment. 

Yoni steaming is a complementary and alternative treatment used for a vast quantity of reasons from endometriosis to preventing pregnancy to postpartum healing. 

I started Yoni steaming at home about a year ago. My inspiration to begin was for relaxation and finding a new self-care routine that felt nurturing to my feminine soul. I have subsequently found the practice to be very cleansing, like I literally feel a million times “cleaner” down there when I’m done. I prefer to do it after my menstruation has stopped as a way of cleansing and clearing away anything my body didn’t pass on its own. The impact of this has been an improvement in the color of my blood from brownish-red to vibrant healthy red! 

I have a super basic set up that is my bamboo squatty potty that I cover and pad with folded towels. I then place a pot of gently steaming water below and lean over a pillow at the side of my bed or couch. To keep the steam enclosed, I wrap myself and the stool I am sitting on in a sarong. Then I breathe and relax for 20-30 minutes. It is so easy and so nourishing!
