I feel like we went from being absolutely oblivious as a society about trauma to hyper obsessed with trauma in just the last 10 years or so. It’s amazing and entirely overwhelming (for many)!
There is so much information on trauma and releasing trauma that I think a lot of people are tuning out or over complicating the process. Both strategies aren’t getting you the benefits of releasing trauma.
Within my practice I use trauma informed care. Put simply, I assume everyone who walks through my door has some degree of trauma. This is also why I have been incorporating more and more intuitive movement into my practice. Intuitive movement can be called a variety of things and take many forms but at its core it is very simple and easy. It is also a great way to let go of rigidity and develop a stronger connection to your intuitive sense in pregnancy and postpartum when your intuitive capacities are at their highest!
Here is how you can practice this on your own:
Dedicate 5-10min to simply move your body in any way that feels good. Here are a few suggestions to give this low structure movement flow a little structure…
Turn on music you love
Dancing is entirely welcomed and might be all you end up doing
Pay attention to focusing on each part of your body, one at a time. I usually go feet to head
Linger in areas that feel good or bad. Explore the sensations, taking in the yummy or yucky without judgment
End by laying down or sitting quietly and tuning in to the after effects of being one with your body for a few minutes
In Health,
Hilary
