Embracing New Christmas Traditions

We love our Hawaii Christmas traditions!

Every year we would walk through all the fabulously decorated hotels in Waikiki. Decorate our tiny space with a spectacular Christmas wreath- decked with all our ornaments. Christmas Eve would be spent on the beach and Christmas day was for ordering Cheesecake Factory takeout. We had it down and it was beautiful, magical and just our style.

Fast forward to this year and all of those traditions are proving next to impossible to uphold so far. So we are improvising and finding new creative ways to make this season magical in new ways.

First up… I am so glad we brought along Sam… our Elf! He never made it back to the North Pole last year, opting to hide out in Jason’s sock drawer until he was discovered by our girls upon packing up our home. So sure enough he made it to the mainland in our carryons and has been getting into all sorts of mischief since arriving. He has become truly special this year, as we have hopped from place to place awaiting our RV!

Next… actively seeking out gorgeous Christmas light displays. At first it felt a bit daunting because apparently you gotta pay to play when it comes to spectacular Christmas light displays in many locations. But we dug a little deeper and found some beautiful displays.

First, in Chattanooga, Jason Drive, though small, doesn’t disappoint. It is a little private loop neighborhood in East Ridge, TN, but it is so well done and evidence of the Christmas spirit being alive and well in the world.

Next, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see the Lights Under Louisville. This was so cool and well worth the $45 to get in. It’s a cave (manmade) fully decorated with Christmas lights. It took over 30minutes to drive through the whole thing and had us oooing and aweing the entire time! If you have been to the light show at Aloha Stadium in Hawaii… imagine that x2 in a cave! So cool!

Lastly, we were pleasantly surprised by the light display at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Indianapolis, Indiana. Just spectacular!

Finally… passing on the beach and instead heading for an ice skating adventure! We found our spot in Indianapolis at the Bicentennial Unity Plaza. We just went yesterday and we had so much fun! The girls caught on super quick, I was laughing from so much joy and thrill in my heart my cheeks hurt and we decided that we just HAVE to go back again today! Ice skating will definitely be on our list of must-do’s every year

Merry Christmas,

Hilary
