If you are breastfeeding… your estrogen is close to that of a menopausal woman’s. Estrogen is the hormone that provides lubrication to your entire system. So if you find yourself feeling dry all over, especially down there, it’s likely because your estrogen is very low in order for your milk producing hormone to be effective. When prolactin (the hormone for milk production) goes up and estrogen goes down!
So what can you do about this? Well, as a pelvic floor therapist I always suggest using lubrication. You can use lubrication during intimacy and you can use it for comfort on a daily basis.
Yet, all lubricants are not created equal which is why I offer the following recommendations:
Silicone
Condom safe. Not for use with silicone devices. Great for daily moisture.
- Überlube
- Sliquid Silver
- Pjur Med Soft Glide
Water-Based
Condom safe. Important to get Ph balanced, all of these are.
- Sliquid Sassy
- Pjur Med Repair Glide Water Based
- Yes
- Good Clean Love
- Aloe Cadabra
- Sliquid Organics
Oil based
Not condom safe. Great for scar care and daily comfort. Not great for deep penetration.
- Yes oil
- Vitamin E
- Rosehip oil
- Coconut oil
I hope this is helpful!
