I have a little on-going series over on my Instagram account I call “60-second refresh”. These are quick little things you can do to reset your energy within your day. There are countless ways to do this but here are my favorites…
- The body shake (see it here)… this one serves so many purposes, from clearing the energy of a negative interaction to simply boosting your energy after being sedentary for too long. It also takes absolutely NO thought, you simply shake your body.
- Glass of water… I like this when my girls are around because it provides a good visual. I will pour myself a glass of water or sometimes a cup of coffee (if I need more time) and let them know that until my glass is empty they are to leave me alone and let me have a little “me” time. If they come up before I’m done, I point to the cup and they will usually scurry off.
- Dance… There is nothing like taking a few minutes to move your body and dance to a favorite song. I love doing this in the morning with my girls if I’m feeling like I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. It is an instant mood lifter and resets the tone for the day.
- Light a candle…I’ll do this one in the evening, sometime after dinner or before bed. I light a candle and watch the flame for as long as I need to allow my mind to settle from the hamster wheel. Sometimes it’s quick, other times I’m sitting there a bit longer, but no matter how long I take there is nothing quite like the soothing feeling of fixating on a beautiful flame.
- Watch the leaves… In the morning I love to do this to set a peaceful, grounded tone for my day. I try to walk outside within 15-minutes of waking up and stare up at the trees behind my home. I love to feel the beautiful early morning sun hit my eyes and help me wake up for the day. Added benefit to this one, is it can actually help you fall asleep at night by activating the melatonin production within your body earlier in the day.
- Mala bead meditation… this one takes more like 2-3 minutes but it’s a fabulous way to sneak in a quick meditation. I keep my mala beads with me often and will pull them out when I need a moment to calm my mind and/or uplift my mood. I’ll pick a short little affirmation or mantra like “just be” and repeat it in my mind as I touch all 108 beads. By the end my energy is completely reset!
These are all quick simple acts of self-care that nourish body, mind and soul! What is your favorite 60-second reset? I would love to hear and add it to my list!
